Our Helpless Estate

I borrow that phrase from the wonderful hymn It Is Well With My Soul.

Galatians 6:15: For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

Whether one is a Jew or something else he needs to become a new creature. We cannot make ourselves into new creatures. Only God can do that. The Bible also refers to this change as putting off the corrupt old man and his conversation (way of life), being renewed in the spirit of his mind and putting on the new man created in righteousness, who will continue living in righteousness. A saved person will need and have God*s help to live righteously. None of us can do these things for ourselves. Only God can do them.

Ephesians 4:21: If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

We cannot put off corruption without God*s help. We cannot create ourselves in righteousness and true holiness.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We cannot make ourselves into new creatures. Only God can do that.

Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

We cannot save ourselves, we cannot wash ourselves, we cannot regenerate ourselves and we cannot do the renewing of the Holy Ghost.

Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Without His revealing it to us, we could not even know we were lost.

Romans 5:6: For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Psalms 40:2: He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

Psalms 27:5: For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

Psalms 69:2: I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. 14 Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. 15 Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

We can*t even see around the next corner but God can. Do you still think you don*t need Him?
